Practical guidance
Planning IT for a Bangalore office: practical considerations
These points are worth planning for early when you set up or upgrade an office in the city. None of them needs a large budget if it is considered before the interiors are finished.
UPS and power backup sizing
Power cuts and voltage fluctuations can happen, and buildings on generator backup usually have a short gap while the generator starts. A UPS bridges that gap for computers, servers and network equipment. Size it from the connected load and the backup time you need, and keep servers, switches and the internet router on the UPS so the network stays up.
Surge protection
Surges during storms, or when heavy equipment switches on, can damage power supplies and network ports. Surge protection at the distribution board, good-quality power strips at desks and a UPS for critical equipment reduce that risk. Ask your electrician to check earthing before sensitive equipment is installed.
Cabling in multi-tenant commercial buildings
In shared commercial buildings and tech parks, the landlord or facility team usually controls ceiling access, risers and working hours for contractors. Get written permission for cable routes and any core drilling, check where internet providers enter the building, and plan cable routes before the interiors are finished.
Wi-Fi coverage across floors
Glass partitions, concrete floors and dense desk layouts all affect wireless coverage. Plan access points per floor based on the number of users and devices rather than floor area alone, cable each access point back to a switch, and keep guest Wi-Fi on a separate network from business devices.
